Zac and Nola - June 2018

Zac and Nola were married at the beautiful Dundee cliffs (about 2 hours out from Darwin). These cliffs go an amazing red near sunset and with Zac having a brother who is also a helicopter pilot, it meant we could get down on the beaches for photos in front of the cliffs (only access is boat or helicopter).

Their ceremony took place on top of the cliffs with the bright sun beating down on us. Nola arrived in a beautiful vintage car so we took some time after the ceremony before flying down to the beaches to get some images with the car. Once dropped down on the beaches, we got some images with the helicopter hovering above the cliffs in the background and then just some general beach shots.

Upon going for a fly around after the beach, we saw an exposed rock bar in the sea (only exposed at low tide) and so decided to go and check it out. Landing carefully on the rock bar, Nola and Zac jumped out and shimmied across the rocks (Nola, whilst the perfect picture bride, was normally more comfortable out hunting and fishing and you should have seen her making her way effortlessly across the slippery, oyster coated rocks in high heels!). Zac followed suit more gingerly, with champagne glasses in hand and bouquet in mouth (had to snap a shot of that - see below).

As we hovered back up above them, Nola’s veil started spinning in the wind from the blades and came down over them in the perfect shot (you couldn’t have tossed the veil better over them).

There I was, hanging out the side of the helicopter, lens on full zoom, shutter speed as fast as I could get it as the helicopter was shuddering as we lifted above the sea (and it was sunset nearing and so quite low light which meant I couldn’t have the shutter as fast as I would like), chanting inside my head, “please work out, please work out”, whilst motioning to them (as there was no way they could hear me) to kiss.

It turned out to be the perfect shot, technically and aesthetically, and is featured first in this gallery. Make sure you scroll down in their images to see how crazy the veil was the rest of the time!!
